Back in October we drove along the Great Ocean Road in a bit of a rush, and didn't have time to stop at the Otway Lighthouse. Today we rectified that. I have a thing for lighthouses, and today it was incredibly windy standing at the point which made it easy to imagine the tough and lonely lifestyle of a lighthouse keeper back in the day. Took a bunch of pics but I like this one. The lighthouse isn't in operation anymore but it still works. One of the things I found interesting is that it's made out of handcut stone which just slot together - no cement to hold them in place. They were made to fit and more than 150 years later it's still standing. This has now been replaced by a small solar powered panel. They don't make lighthouses like they used to.
