The remains of several vaulted chambers that were once part of the Baths of Herodes Atticus at the site of Alexandria Troas on the road between Geyiki and Yukyeri Iskelesi in the Biga peninsula. Other than the baths, little memory of this once magnificent city is preserved at the site. Most of the remains are hidden by agricultural fields and there are a few abandoned columns near the harbor. When Lysimachus defeated Antigonus at the Battle of Ipsus in 301 BC, he took over Antigonus's former capital, Antigoneia, and renamed it Alexandria Troas in honor of the dead Alexander the Great. The city became a major transportation hub for traffic between the Aegean and the sea of Marmaris. Though prosperous during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, Alexandria Troas declined in the later Roman empire as Constantinople gained in importance and was plundered for building materials during the Ottoman period. St. Paul visited here twice.
