After seeing some pictures of Thor's well on various sites I decided it was time I went and saw it for myself, which was not too unreasonable given that we live about 3 hours away. When we arrived this morning we headed out to see if we could find it and get an idea of how to shoot photos of it around sunset. We found it fairly quickly after driving past the parking lot a few times. After we got down the short path to the rocky shore the first thing we saw was 'spouting horn' which was pretty amazing...as the breakers came crashing into the rockey coast they would build up pressure in the cave below the blow hole then a huge spray of water would shoot out of the adjacent rocky shoreline, despite my attempts I could not get a shot that I felt did it justice. I could see Thor's Well in the distance but didn't have the courage to go check it out up close as the high tide was in and the sea was rough. We came back later that afternoon just before sunset, my intent was to just shoot with a telephoto and call it good since I assumed it was a little too dicey for me to want to go out and get up close. When we got there we saw many people out shooting pictures up close so we figured that if everyone else is doing it then it must not be too sketchy. I can't say how glad I am we did, it was amazing and only occasionally sketchy, I would strongly recommend anyone who is down on the central Oregon coast check it out.
